Clean Alangad – Comprehensive Waste Management

The Grama Panchayat is successfully implementing the “Clean Alangad” project as part of its efforts towards comprehensive waste management.

Haritha Keralam Mission Activities (Waste-Free Panchayat Initiatives)

  • Haritha Karma Sena Activities: Collection of non-biodegradable waste from households and institutions, segregation, and transportation to treatment facilities. This has significantly contributed towards making the Panchayat waste-free.
  • Waste Processing Units: Establishment of plastic shredding units and organic waste processing units such as composting and biogas plants.
  • Green Protocol: Implementation of green protocol during public events and celebrations to reduce waste generation, especially plastic waste.

LIFE Mission Housing Projects

The Panchayat implements housing projects for the homeless with the objective of ensuring safe and secure housing for all.

Kudumbashree Mission Programmes

  • Women Self-Help Groups: Micro-enterprises, loans, and production units that support women’s economic empowerment.
  • People’s Hotels (Janakeeya Hotels): Providing affordable meals to support the vision of a hunger-free Kerala.
  • Agricultural Groups: Farming collectives formed through Kudumbashree that promote agriculture at the local level.

Effective Implementation of MGNREGA

The Panchayat effectively implements the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) by ensuring 100 days of employment for unskilled workers in rural areas.

Major works undertaken include:

  • Pond construction
  • Canal cleaning
  • Construction of concrete and tiled roads
  • Agricultural activities
  • Construction of kitchen sheds and dining halls
  • Construction of work sheds
  • Laying of coir geotextiles

These activities make a significant contribution to rural development.

Safe Drinking Water Projects

The Panchayat ensures access to clean drinking water to all households through:

  • Cleaning of wells
  • Supply of drinking water through public taps

Water resources are also protected through various conservation initiatives.

Model Interventions in the Health Sector

  • Aardram Mission Activities: Upgradation of Primary Health Centres into Family Health Centres to provide better treatment and preventive healthcare services.
  • Communicable Disease Prevention: Disease prevention through mosquito control measures and sanitation activities.

Nature Conservation and Biodiversity Protection Projects

  • Cleaning and conservation of rivers and canals.
